Detoxification services are defined as medically supervised care provided in a sub-acute residential setting for the purpose of managing the effects of withdrawal from alcohol and/or other drugs.

A detoxification program must be staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week, by a licensed physician or by the designated representative of a licensed physician. Services typically last three to five days.
